Dr Fiona Bonar

Dr Fiona Bonar graduated in Ireland in 1977 where she did post graduate work in Paediatrics and Obstetrics, ultimately completing training in Internal Medicine and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. She trained in Anatomical Pathology in Ireland and in the USA. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (London) and she completed a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Pathology at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York. She migrated to Australia in 1990 and has become a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia where she also attained fellowship of the Faculty of Oral Pathology.

She is a Senior Specialist in Anatomical Pathology at the Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology Practice and has been an Honorary Consultant in Orthopaedic Pathology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney for over 2 decades. Her academic roles include that of Adjunct Professor of Pathology at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame and Clinical Associate professor at Macquarie University Sydney.

Her main expertise is in the histopathology of bones, joints and soft tissue. She has authored more than 85 peer reviewed papers, several book chapters, including two chapters in the recent WHO Classification of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumours and is a co-author of the AFIP Fascicle on Non-Tumour Orthopaedic Pathology. She is a member of several editorial boards of international specialty journals, participates in a number of national and international clinic-pathological groups including the Australian Sarcoma Group and is an active member of The International Skeletal Society.

(Honours include Distinguished Pathologist award by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia 2020, Medal of the International Skeletal Society 2019, Medal in the Order of Australia 2017 and Distinguished Pathologist award by Sonic Healthcare, 2014).
